Let’s Know the definition of article

The words a, an and the are usually called Article. They are called Articles as they have some special significance as the part of speech. “They are really Demonstrative Adjectives.”

The choice between a and an is determined by sound. A is used before a word beginning with a Consonant sound and An is used before a word beginning with A Vowel sound.

Use Of A / AN (i) A or An is used when it is mentioning someone or something (single countable noun) for the first time.

I saw a man on the street.

An old lady came to our house.

(ii) A or An is used to indicate a unit.

One hundred centimeters make a meter.

(iii) A or An is used in the sense of ‘one like’.

He thinks he is a Rabindranath.

He seems to be an Indian.

(iv) A or An is used before a unknown name or surname.
