WI Re-energizing CAUTI Phase II Webinar April 21, 2016 Presented by  DeAnn Richards, MetaStar and  Jill Hanson, WHA

Objectives for Today • Review Phase One • Share results from the 2015 TAP Assessment • Peer‐to‐peer sharing on the success of the organization's  PDSA implementation • Share new tools for next efforts

CAUTI Phase One December 1, 2015 – CAUTI Workshop • 25 hospital teams and 63 individuals attended • Reviewed and completed Targeted Assessment for Prevention (TAP) tool • Brainstormed how to address barriers and gaps; electronic resources  were provided • Reviewed how to run TAP report in NHSN and how to interpret • Time given for 2016 CAUTI plan development

TAP Results • Our objective was to determine if  hospitals that were more successful  in preventing infections had shared  practices as self‐reported on the TAP  tool.  • If we could determine which  practices had the greatest likelihood  of preventing infections, these could  be encouraged for implementation.

TAP Results • 40 surveys were collected from  individuals or teams  • Answers converted to a percentage  between zero and one  • Each facility’s CAUTI CAD was  determined for combined 1st‐3rd quarter of 2015  • The Pearson Correlation Coefficient  was used to determine linear  correlation

Results Strong Correlation Values  • Nurses who are comfortable to  remove catheter without  physician order • Providers given feedback on  device utilization rate  • Prescriber documents during  order entry a dose, duration, and  indication for all antibiotics • Documentation of insertion

Potential Correlation Values • Emergency Department using  indwelling per appropriate  indications • Two person catheter insertion • Daily review for patient need

Have this on my to‐do list. 3. No, as I don’t think it will be valuable. 4. No, as I have no idea what you are talking about.
