April 2016 Calendar of Events Baton Rouge Region April 1 (Friday): BREAKFAST BUNCH: “Cancer Screening“ Presented by: Ronald Delrie, MD Dr. Delrie will discuss how screening can help doctors find and treat several types of cancer early. $60.00 per Person (includes transportation and lunch) --- Please call with menu choice Depart from Ochsner Plaza II: 7:30 am Return Time: 5:00 pm It has taken the family 5 years to develop a Botanical garden and this 5 acre area was created primarily by wind erosion thousands of years ago. At the end of the Ice Age some of the same soil and plants are still found here today. We will have lunch at the Carriage House Restaurant located at the Myrtles Plantation. The menu choices are listed on the back. (This does not include a tour of the plantation) After lunch, we will visit the Port Hudson State Historical Site. See back for details. An aging widow from New York City follows her daughter to Los Angeles in hopes of starting a new life after her husband passes away. RSVP REQUIRED

Imahara’s Botanical Gardens / Carriage House Restaurant / Port Hudson Road Trip information: Our two hour tour begins with a look into the family album and the significant of the Japanese Haiku carvings. Along the garden path, view varieties of azaleas, camellias, crape myrtles, holly topiaries, and magnolias, palms, oak and fruit trees. Climb “Little Mt Fuji” that overlooks nine reflecting ponds, a zigzag bridge and Torii gates (a Torii is a traditional Japanese gate that marks the division between the physical and spiritual world and in our case the natural world). It has taken the family 5 years to develop a Botanical garden and this 5 acre area was created primarily by wind erosion thousands of years ago. In 1974, the Port Hudson battlefield was designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of the Interior. It joined a select group of properties which have been recognized for their importance in American History. Port Hudson State Historic Site hosts several living history events, including the Battle of Port Hudson.
