Welcome back Falcons! We are so excited to start another great year here at Franklin. This year’s new theme is DISNEY, and each classroom has become a character in the world of Disney. Our school is a magical place to be and we are eager to begin this school year! With the Disney theme in place, we have changed the title of our previous “Wockets in the Pockets” to “Keys to the Kingdom”. This is a school-wide incentive program to encourage students to reach their very best potential everyday in the classroom. We also have a school-wide focus of Writing and Six Traits. Six Traits writing teaches students the writing qualities: Voice, Organization, Ideas, Conventions, word Choice, and Sentence Fluency. Writing can be fun and is critical in becoming a good reader. We encourage you to read and write each day with your child to open opportunities for them to learn and grow! We have had many changes in our building and we would like you to stay updated! Please attend our first Title 1 Meeting of the year at Open House on August 18th, 2015 at 5pm. We hope to see all of you there to learn about the great and exciting new things happening at Franklin Elementary! As a reminder, QEP folders will be sent home every Tuesday. Please do not forget to check your child’s backpacks each night for more news and updates. Also, if your child completed the Summer Writing Packet/Journal, please return to Title 1 for a prize! The best thing you can do as a parent is be involved in your child’s education! Thank you for everything you do and we are excited to get this year started! If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school at 812-462-4441.
Parents! VCSC is encouraging you to use a new online system called Peachjar. This program provides the most highly effective method of electronic flyer distribution. Once our school starts using Peachjar, all parents with their email address on file with the district will automatically begin receiving e-flyers in their inbox. Additionally, all eflyers can be viewed by clicking the Peachjar button located on each school’s website. Peachjar saves schools tons of time and paper. Plus, our award-winning service reduces copy costs and removes a significant burden from teachers, office staff, and volunteers! This is a great and efficient way to keep updated with your child’s education!
Welcome back, Falcons! The Media Center/Library has a new specialist this year, Miss Colwell. She is very happy to be a part of the Benjamin Franklin community. The Media Center/Library is a space that will become more exciting throughout the school year. Our Reading Counts goal has been raised to 30,000 points! Please visit, as often as possible, to search for the perfect book you would like to read and to take your Reading Counts tests. The Media Center/Library will be starting a reward incentive. The class that best exhibits exceptional behavior during its Media Center/Library visit will be rewarded with a “Media Treat” the following week. The winning class will be announced on Monday mornings. The “Media Treat” will be a surprise that Miss Colwell will deliver on Monday afternoons. Have a fantastic year, Falcons!
