PROVISIONAL OPENING FOR
County Engineer There is a provisional opening in the Allegany County Department of Public Works for the position of County Engineer. Salary Range: $62,923.00 ~ $87,120.00 This is a professional and administrative position involving the performance and supervision of moderately complex engineering tasks for the County of Allegany Public Works Department, including the preparation and maintenance of related records and reports. Supervision is received from the County Superintendent of Public Works with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the work. Supervision is exercised over the work of engineering personnel and other Department of Public Works crews working on Public Works projects. Does related work as required. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and highway and bridge construction; good knowledge of the principles and techniques of surveying and drafting; good knowledge of budgeting, estimating procedures and principles of engineering economics; considerable skill in designing moderately complex engineering projects; considerable skill in making difficult technical computations and compiling engineering data; considerable skill in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications; considerable skill in planning and supervising the work of others; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships; working skill in operation of surveying and drafting instruments; initiative and resourcefulness in the solution of engineering problems; accuracy; alertness; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position; willingness to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school and:
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with major work in civil engineering and two years of experience in the field of civil engineering; Special Requirements: Licensure as a Professional Engineer by the New York State Department of Education. Eligibility for the proper motor vehicle license required for the position; possession of the license at the time of appointment
**This is a competitive class position, provisional candidate must pass the examination for this position and be ranked among the top three (3) candidates and receive an offer of employment for this position.
** Residency -Candidates must be residents of Allegany County or a contiguous county for at least one month prior to the date of exam. Interested candidates may submit a complete Civil Service application to the Human Resource/Civil Service Department. There is no fee at this time.
