Conference Information About the Theme: “Going the Distance” This year’s conference theme is “Going the Distance.” It takes training, conditioning, and a lot of passion to “go the distance” as an athlete. It is much the same as a direct care professional. Training, education, experience, and passion all make you successful at providing quality care to the individuals you serve. It may seem like you are running a marathon at times and even jumping over hurdles, but when you reach that finish line, and see the smile on a loved one’s face and feel the satisfaction of knowing you have done the best for older Iowans, and children and adults with disabilities, it is all worth the effort.

So, • On Your Marks • Get Set • Go...to conference this fall! Monday, September 23, 2013 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. This time has been reserved for you to: • Check in at the Iowa CareGivers registration table. • Visit the exhibitors who offer various resources and information (begins at 7:30 a.m.) • Participate in the free health screenings (No appointments needed. Begins at 6:30 a.m.) • Enjoy the continental breakfast and network with your peers and fellow conference attendees. • Receive your free pedometer and start counting your steps for the day. Door prizes may be involved!

Conference Recognition Luncheon Iowa CareGivers “Going the Distance” Awards Luncheon This luncheon is being held to honor and pay tribute to all of those who work in direct care and “go the distance” every day. There will be a short program where Governor Terry Branstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds (invited) will present three awards to direct care professionals.

Participate in FREE Health and Oral Health Screenings As those who work in direct care, you often put the care needs of others before your own. But, a healthy YOU is vital to the welfare of those who depend upon you. Get “inspired” to take care of you, so that you can continue to provide the Iowans you serve with the best care and support possible. These health screenings are being offered through a partnership and the generosity of Des Moines University Physician Assistant Program and Polk County Health, as well as other community service providers. Screenings that may be offered are bone density, blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), blood cholesterol and blood sugar. Additional resource information on self-exams, diet/exercise, and other important health issues will be available. Some screenings may require you to fast to receive more accurate results. There may be a small fee to participate in some of the screenings.

Exhibit Space Available Exhibit space will be available at the Iowa CareGivers “Going the Distance” Conference on September 23 and 24, 2013, at The Meadows Events and Conference Center--Prairie Meadows.
