Increased market prices usually mean 'No' ACREAGE REPORTING Acreage reporting time is just around the corner. Please remember that filing an accurate acreage report for all crops and land uses, including failed acreage and prevented planting acreage, can prevent the loss of benefits for a variety of programs. Failed acreage must be reported within 15 days of the disaster event and before disposition of the crop. Prevented planting must be reported no later than 15 days after the final planting date for that crop. Acreage reports are required if you want to be eligible for Farm Service Agency programs. Acreage reports are to be certified by July 15 for all crops. Reports filed after that date will be required to pay a $46 late fee. Also keep track of your planting dates. We will ask you for these dates when you file your crop report. Those dates are helpful to you in the
event of a disaster program. Planting dates are also required for producers enrolled in NAP and crop insurance. We plan to send out appointments for acreage reporting again this year. It will be a few weeks before we get the appointment cards mailed out. PAYMENT LIMITS USDA payments and benefits are subject to producer eligibility and limitation provisions as defined by law. It is the producer’s responsibility to report changes in the farming operation which may affect payment eligibility and payment limitation. The following “per person” payment limits apply for each program year: For the Direct and Counter Cyclical Program (DCCP), there is a $40,000 direct and a $65,000 counter cyclical payment limit; The Conservation Reserve Pro-

By Kathy Wolfe gram (CRP) has a $50,000 annual limit which includes annual rental payments and incentive payments; Loan Deficiency Payments (LDPs) and marketing loan gains are limited to $75,000; The Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) is limited to $100,000 per year; and The Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) has a $450,000 limit per applicant to cover the entire six-year period, 2002-2007.
CSU honors three Logan County students Several local students were recently honored by Colorado State University (CSU) for academic achievement. Nichole Neville, a sophomore at CSU from Sterling, has been awarded the CSU Women’s Association Scholarship in the amount of $1,500. Neville, daughter of Ray and Debbie from Sterling, is a psychology and pre-med major and graduated from Sterling High School in 2005. The award is for the 20062007 school year. Sasha Gartin, a senior at CSU from Merino, has been awarded the Ralph Francis and Fern Howard Briggs Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Gartin, daughter of Stanton and Sharilyn Gartin from Merino, is a family and consumer sciences education major and graduated from Merino High School in 2003. The award is for the 2006-2007 school year. Emily Cress, a freshman at Colorado State University from Sterling has been awarded the L.B. Waters Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 from the College of Busi-
ness. Cress, daughter of Doug and Mary Jo Cress from Sterling is a business major and graduated from Sterling High School in 2006. The award is for the 2006-2007 school year. CSU ranked in the top third of the
100 best public universities in terms of quality of education and affordability by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine. The Templeton Foundation also has designated Colorado State as a “character building” institution. -

A new wetland symbol legend will be used on all CLU maps.
