Sunday, June 16, 2013 Forum 11:30—12:30 Harland Hogue Library Youth Health Crisis in Palestine—Interfaith Solutions with Christy Reiners of IHS and Dr. Paul Hofmann of MSI Christy Reiners, founder of In His Steps: Pathways of Peace, brings us news from her recent work in the Holy land of increasing cases of young Palestinian girls living in villages near Bethlehem with late-stage breast cancer. Although the causal factors of this most unfortunate development are not yet understood, diagnostic and treatment help is emerging from cooperative efforts of both Israeli and Palestinian doctors. The University of Bethlehem, which is a Christian University, and the Ministry of Health have asked IHS to help develop an education, screening and treatment program to address this problem. Dr. Paul Hofmann, a colleague of David Starkweather and a Lamorinda resident affiliated with the non-profit organization, MedShare International, is a potential resource for critically needed medical equipment, training plans, and import strategies to aid in the timely diagnosis and medical treatment procedures for these young girls.
