Intrusive Prevention The word prevention has such a nice sound, but when it comes to the government mandating prevention, be wary. Last week, I discussed Obamaʼs plan to keep everyone healthy and to identify anyone at risk of getting an expensive illness. Well, thereʼs also a global prevention agenda. In Science magazine, an English professor says “effective prevention of noncommunicable diseases [in other words, cancer, asthma, diabetes, etc.] requires changes in how we live.” Well, that may be true, but he calls for a global economic approach that is “comprehensive and integrated.” This means government intrusion at very personal levels. He admits that the impact on people and countries is unknown. That, unfortunately, has never stopped the government. “Global ʻPrevention,ʼ” AAPS News, November 2012.
