26 June 2014 Dear Parents / Carers Wellfield Awards Evening: On Tuesday 15 July we will be hosting our annual Awards Evening. Invitations have been sent out to the families of those pupils who will receive awards, which are presented for their progress and effort in subjects and the much coveted ‘Learner of the Year’. Fizzy / High Sugar / Caffeine Bottled or Canned Drinks: I would like to thank parents for their support in our decision to ensure pupils do not bring fizzy / high sugar / caffeine drinks into school. We have had very few issues with this decision and I am confident that it will improve our pupils’ concentration in school and the other health issues associated with these drinks. Quiz Night: On Thursday 10 July HSBC are hosting a Quiz Night for Wellfield at Penwortham Golf Club to raise funds for a second defibrillator at Wellfield. Please come along and join us between 7 p.m. & 7.30 p.m. Teams can be made up of 4-6 people, the cost is £2.50 per person and children are welcome. Change of School Name: The Governors have voted to change the name of the school to ‘Wellfield High School’ as from September 2014. The reason for the change is that as school specialisms have been dissolved in recent years it is an opportunity to re-establish Wellfield as a high school that provides a traditional and exciting curriculum and prepares its pupils for the next steps in their lives. We have revisited our values as a school and these are based around Inspire – Challenge – Achieve – Nurture. These values are what we believe we stand for in supporting our pupils to achieve their best outcomes and more importantly be the confident, resilient and happy pupils of Wellfield. There will be some subtle changes that you will notice over the forthcoming months, which we believe will only make Wellfield a better school. Some of these changes will initially include signs around school and the website. There is no change to our admissions policy. I do hope that pupils and parents will see other improvements that are part of any schools normal process of change and desire to improve. Should you wish to discuss any matter of this letter please do not hesitate to contact the school in the first instance. Thank you for your continued support. Yours sincerely
