Welcome a. Introductions Action Item a. Approve February 9th, 2017 Minutes i. Requested to table minutes until the April Meeting b. Report on Destination Recreation Expo i. Set up was different, there were not as many people in attendance. Although patrons that our representatives spoke with, were very interested in SEAC. c. Response to Citizen Comments i. Ms. Ownby, SBR spoke with Ms. Bourgeois, Sr. Director of Student Services about the selection process for the Student Advisory Committee. The selection process is one of self‐selection. From each High School, there is (1) selected youth to represent from each grade level. If there are more students self‐selecting from each grade level, then the Principal would decide. WJCC School Rep Comments a. Budget Meeting was last Tuesday. Some of the areas presented are required and nonnegotiable. We still have about $1.5 million to shave off. Areas already decreased are the Pathway program will be delayed for two years. Lessons learned, planning will be in the fall – with no cost, will be implementing some additions but not the full program. We will not be able to purchase new buses. Citizen Comments a. None Announcements: a. Committee Members i. Kids Night – March 25th from 5‐915pm a. Specifically designed for children with special needs and their siblings. b. Free for children with special needs and only $5 for those siblings c. Capacity for 150 children, averaging 100 participants ii. April is Autism Awareness month a. April 13th – Peer Relationship and meaningful inclusive environments

Days of Discovery – Flyers for upcoming events to include adventure swim and brochures available Special Presentation – a. Jamestown Exceptional Eagle Program – Mr. Brown i. Mission: To create a united community by celebrating individualism, acceptance and diversity. ii. Educate and assist our student body and community on our differences to change the social climate and develop acceptance. iii. Building genuine relationships and a real sense of community. iv. All students have the opportunity to get involved in these inclusion events to include social events, concerts, plays and sporting. v. All about eliminating the “R” word. They prepared a large banner – “Power of Words” by Sorrow Pallombo; Youth pledged and signing the banner to end the “R” word. vi. If you want to see more: watch the School Board Meeting vii. In the future: the desire is to have a club chapter at every school viii. Annual Exceptional Games – this year on June 9th. ix. Student shared that she loves the club because she gets to hang out with lots of people she wouldn’t normally hang out with. b. Tina Norris, Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC) Family Engagement Specialist i. There will be PEATC training related to SEAC in May in Norfolk ii. PEATC website will share about trainings to include webinars and many fact sheets that can be printed for families. They have over 40 workshops available, to include Hot Issues like Cyber Bullying and Prevention. iii. They also have a Hotline, where you can have questions answered. iv.
