A planning committee made up of both civic officials and community residents will make an official announcement at a kick-off event this coming Monday, August 13th, at the place where it all started – the old CNR train station. The announcement will also include the unveiling of the logo being used to promote this significant year. A listing of events planned for the year will be announced, as well as some community-based contests and promotions. “We are so excited to celebrate this milestone, not only as a committee, but as an entire community,” says Tammy Donahue-Buziak, chairperson of the planning committee. “My father, a former city councilor, took a great deal of satisfaction in community pride, something that has obviously rubbed off on me. Immigration to the Canadian prairies was at an all-time high during the years leading up this new city status. The surrounding farming community is still a rich heritage of European descent. …2

North Battleford became a city on May 1st, 1913 amid much revelry. It was now Saskatchewan's fifth city, and the first to become one since the formation as a Province in 1905. -30-
