 The purpose of the regional workshop was to spread awareness and develop logical understanding on clean energy options and nuclear energy vis a vis removing misconceptions about nuclear power plants  More than 270 students from R D University and various colleges affiliated with university, faculty members, media persons and other vigilant citizens attended the workshop

Activities Inaugural Session  Inaugural Lecture by Chief Guest Prof A K Pandey Interactive Lectures & Question – Answers by  Dr. A K Bajpai,  Dr M K Roy,  Shri Amritesh Srivastava,  Nimish Kapoor,  Abhinav Gupta Extempore on topics related to Nuclear as Clean Energy Option Essay Writing Competition

 Chief Guest of the workshop Prof Akhilesh Kumar Pandey, Chairman, Madhya Pradesh Niji Vishwavidyalaya Aayog, Bhopal in his address expressed his happiness about the proposed Nuclear Power Plant in the region.  He talked about the need of energy independence and the potential nuclear power can play for the development of Jabalpur-Mandla region.  He also opined that there is need of more similar kinds of nuclear energy awareness workshops in the region to remove fear and myths from the society.

 Shri Amritesh Srivastava, Manager CC, NPCIL in his address cleared myths and mis-concepts related to nuclear power plants and informed about the safety features of Indian Nuclear Power Plants  He talked about the defense-in-depth approach and informed all about the post fukushima steps being to enhance the safety features of NPP in Indian conditions.

 Shri Nimish Kapoor, Scientist, Vigyan Prasar (DST) in his address covered various scientific, industrial, agricultural and medical uses of nuclear isotopes.  He emphasised that radiation all over; no need to fear of radiations. Even radiations from radio isotopes have application in curing cancer and enhancing agricultural productivity with wide ranges of industrial application.

 Dr A K Bajpai, Head, Dept. of Chemistry, GASC, Jabalpur in his expert talk focussed his views on ‘Nuclear Energy: The Future of Energy or Energy of The Future?.  He talked about the Indian Nuclear Power Programme and informed all about various applications of nuclear technology.

 Dr Mukesh Kumar Roy, IITDM in his expert talk informed all about various clean energy options and status of nuclear power in overall generation in the country.  He talked about the processes involved in generation of electricity in nuclear power plants and safety features of Indian Nuclear Power Plants  He also informed the vast reserves of thorium in India.
