Fonds Description Alumni Association - Speakers Bureau fonds. – 1969-1987. 1.09 m of textual material. Administrative History The UBC Speakers Bureau was established in 1975 by the UBC Alumni Association. Its purpose was to arrange speaking engagements by University faculty to non-profit organizations on a wide variety of topics. Organizations could contact the Speakers Bureau and inform them of their preferred date, time, and topic. In turn, the Bureau would contact faculty members who had indicated their willingness to participate in the program, and whose area of expertise included the topic in question. The Bureau ceased operations in 1987; however, a new Speakers Bureau was established by Community Relations in September 1988. After the Speakers Bureau was closed by the Alumni Association, some records were transferred to Community Relations, and they arrived at the University Archives with other materials from that office; no records had been added in the meantime. In April 1995 the Archives removed the Speakers Bureau records from those of Community Relations, before arranging and describing them. The rest of the records were retained by the Alumni Association until 1995, when they were transferred to the Archives together with other Association records Scope and Content Fonds consists of completed forms, correspondence, reports, CV's and other biographical information, and clippings and other published materials. Requests for Speakers series. - 1986-1987. 6 cm of textual material. Series consists of completed and unfilled request forms pertaining to requests for speakers. Engagements series. - 1975-1987. 15 cm of textual materials. Series consists of memoranda pertaining to the engagement of speakers. Topics and Speakers series. - 1975-1986. 16 cm of textual materials. Series consists of lists of topics and a print-out of the Bureau database pertaining to the engagement of speakers. Biographical Files series. - 1975-1978. 24 cm of textual materials. Series consists of biographial data and CVs pertaining to faculty members who had indicated their willingness to speak to non-profit organizations. Speakers series. - 1985-1987. 32 cm of textual materials. Series consists of renewal and contact forms and engagement memoranda pertaining to the engagement of speakers. Series is arranged in alphabetical order, by the last name of the speaker.
