South Bethany Comprehensive Plan – Community Questionnaire 2011 List of Property Owners’ Comments For: Town Services: Street Maintenance
In this survey, responders were asked to provide written comments if they marked 2 or 3 ("Very Unsatisfied" or "Unsatisfied"). Although quite often positive comments and suggestions were provided, most of the written comments tended to be negative. Comments – Street Maintenance: TOTAL: 34 Comments/860 Returns (3.9%) After each completed survey was returned to the Town, each completed survey was given a number for record keeping purposes. The number before each comment represents that number.
329- Hard surface between driveways and crooked street is needed. 273- Ocean Drive needs repaving. 233- Ocean Drive is always full of potholes, repair patches, water pools after rain – why is Ocean Drive the only street in SB that never gets repaved? Yet is the most used? 227- Sands need to be cleaned from the streets. 6- Too long to fix “walk” batten at Evergreen and Route 1. 347- Street maintenance is a never-ending job. I guess what it is – is what it is. Ocean Drive is in need of upgrading. 80- Don’t keep repaving the streets. 83- Potholes not filled in. 90- Ever since the cul de sac on Black Gum was paved it floods. 96- I would like a “doggie pickup” sign and bags available on South Anchorage as it is a long street with no reminders. 118- We have a low spot on our street which collects water. 136- Live on Ocean Drive – very patched over; cracked at edges; too much dog poop left in driveways.

143- Many areas of beach sand remain on Ocean Drive for long periods of time/unsafe and unsightly. 50- Streets need drainage and repaving in some spots. 194- Weed growth on properties. 209- Poor lines. 388- Too much sand on streets. 389- My street (New Castle) is poorly maintained. 391- Ocean Drive is a mess. 427- Street sides in poor condition – no maintenance apparent. 434- Loose metal plate at Canal and W. 8th makes a lot of noise when someone drives over it. 443- Some holes and uneven surfaces. 448- Several streets have potholes. 477- Why do we still have potholes around water valves, depressions where roads have been cut; storm sewer covers not flush with streets? Because even though the corrections would cost the Town nothing – the Council never had the --- to write letters to the folks who were responsible and the Code Enforcement officer has under his desk! Write letters to each property owner where street has been cut and give them 30 days to have leveled. Write a letter to water company and give them 30 days to raise valve covers, etc. Also to state/county to have storm and sanitary covers flush with street. Please realize the seriousness; the Council, Town Manager and Code Enforcement officials have NOT had the folks responsible for ruining our streets correct them. In fact, they facilitated this destruction. Pass an ordinance that all utilities will be “snaked” that is hydraulically pushed under streets; no more street cutting. 500- Would love more drainage wells. Our property and the others around it have water that lasts for days in our backyard. Have even considered doing it myself. 503- Side streets pot holes, gravel everywhere. 548- Ocean Drive is way overdue for updating-what an eyesore. 560- Near W. 6th street there is an indent in the road next to manhole cover on Canal Road; this is OK for cars but is a hazard for bicycles. 584- Ocean Drive? 625- Ocean Drive is in poor condition making walking and riding bike uncomfortable. 723- Ocean Drive needs paving. Shoulders on Oceanside of Route 1 need cleaning up! 729- Require utilities to mark-out/off isolation values on streets. 733- Mediacom/Verizon contractors do not do road cuts properly. 748- Would like curbs. 787- Ocean drive is a mess. 829- The streets need potholes filled and need to have a universal width.
