January 19, 2011 Dear Parents of 8th Grade Students: Graduation plans are starting. The time is closer than we all think! Although graduation is four months from today, it is important we begin to share some important information with you concerning the eighth grade trip and graduation. Please take note of the following points: 1. The Eighth Grade Trip/Retreat plans are underway! The dates for the trip are Tuesday, May 10th through Friday, May 13th. The cost of the trip is $450.00. It includes all meals, hotels and planned activities. Students would only need money for souvenirs and extra snack items. The first non-refundable payment of $200.00 is due by February15th. If you have any concerns about your payment, please talk with me. Mark your calendars for the mandatory parent/student meeting which will be Tuesday, April 26th at 6:30 p.m. The remaining trip funds are due by 3 p.m. on the same date. The 8th grade trip policy, which is included in the St. Cyril School Handbook, is stated below: “The 8th Grade Trip/Retreat is an event scheduled year by year. The itinerary for the trip itself may vary from year to year for various reasons. Parents and students should note that individual attendance on the class trip is a privilege, not a right. A student may lose the privilege to attend the class trip as a consequence related to administrative disciplinary action. The final decision to revoke a student's travel privileges rests with the principal. Parents and students must understand that the fees set for a class trip are based upon the number of travelers who commit to the excursion. The loss of even one student who commits to the trip can impact the costs for the other travelers. As such, any student who loses the privilege to travel as a result of disciplinary action may forfeit fees already paid and be asked to pay in full if their removal from the roster would force classmates to pay higher fees.” 2. Minimum Course Requirements for Graduation It is important to understand that graduation from St. Cyril of Alexandria School is contingent upon the student’s completion of minimum course requirements for the eighth grade course of study. A diploma will not be issued if a student earns for the year a 64% average or below in two or more core subjects. Core subjects include Language Arts, Religion, Social Studies, Algebra and Science. Students who do not receive a diploma will be issued a Certificate of Attendance. 3. School Fee Policy and Graduation According to school policy, all tuition, fines, substitution fees, after school payments, book damage/replacement fees and other fees and obligations must be current in order for your student to receive grades, to participate in the graduation ceremony, to receive a graduation diploma and to attend the graduation dance. 4. Graduation Mass will be held on Thursday, May 19th, 2011, at 8:00 a.m. Graduates will wear their graduation gowns for this mass. Attire underneath gowns will be normal St. Cyril dress code. After mass students should send graduation gowns home so they do not get ruined at school prior to graduation.

5. Graduation Ceremony will also be held on Thursday, May 19th, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. More detailed information concerning the graduation will be coming in the future, but it is important to discuss appropriate attire at this time so parents have time to purchase attire that will be permitted at graduation.  Attire for eighth grade boys is long-sleeved, pastel or white dress shirt with a tie and dress slacks (no baggy pants).  Attire for girls is a “dressy” dress. All dresses must be modeled and approved by Mrs. Coleman and Mrs. Alnashash by Monday, May 9th. In order to be approved, the general style of the dress must be appropriate for church and the dance. Hem length may be no more than two inches above the knee to mid-calf length. Dresses can be sleeveless, but dresses with straps are not acceptable. Dresses may not show below the graduation gown. Please take into consideration that this is an eighth grade graduation, not a formal dance. Dresses can be brought in and modeled for the teachers on Mondays or Wednesdays from 3 – 3:30 p.m. starting Monday, April 18th in room 21. Again, they must be approved by May 9th. We recommend dresses be checked early to avoid having to purchase a different dress too close to graduation  If you have any questions concerning the proper attire for our graduation, please contact me. I look forward to sharing with you and your children the special events that will culminate their St. Cyril School memories. Again, if you have any questions or concerns about any portion of this letter, please contact me. Blessings to all,

Ann Zeches Principal
