Overview Energy is a prerequisite for industrial development and activity, however, access to energy is becoming more costly and environmentally damaging. The era of cheap energy is over (in many countries including Kenya!). Many organizations are, hence grappling with ways and means to reduce their energy consumption in all aspects of their activities in order to achieve the dual objectives of cost reduction and mitigation against environmental degradation. It has been demonstrated through case studies the world over that a sustainable energy management effort is best supported by an Energy Management Systems (EnMS). An EnMS provides a structured and systematic approach to integrate Energy Efficiency into industry corporate culture and daily management practices. It achieves this by providing: • A framework for understanding significant energy uses • Action plans to continually improve energy performance • Structure and organizational framework to sustain energy performance improvements over time.
