Welcome a. Introductions

II.

Action Item – a. Julie Moved to approve Minutes from October & December 2015 meetings since had quorum. Minutes approved via voice vote from members. b. Secretary Position - Christine Steifel formally accepted the Secretary position (had been nominated & approved in December upon condition of acceptance at January meeting) c. Response to Citizens comment from Spring of 2016 regarding providing accommodations for individuals with disabilities during citizens comments section of meeting. RESOLVED Individuals with disabilities can self-select on new Citizens comment form and request an additional 2 minutes and/or for someone else to read their comments into the record. d. Discussion about New Procedures for meetings i. Members now have Name Tents to indicate who should be allowed to vote ii. School Division will provided time at each meeting to update SEAC iii.Citizens Comments permitted at the beginning & end of meetings

School Division Update to SEAC - Stephanie Bourgeois i. Graduation cohort information now posted on website provides state rate for on time graduation (start/finish in 4 years, advanced, standard & special diplomas) ii. WJCC Division 91.6% Overall iii.Students with Disabilities 91.1% (was 88% & 83% in previous years)- 111 students in this cohort iv. Cohort completion rate 92.1% (GED was less than 1%) v. Drop out rate for Students with Disabilities 6.9%- above division average which is 4.1% (however consider size of cohort) vi. Excited to be a place where Students with Disabilities rates comparable to the Division wide Cohort

Citizen Comments a. How Citizen Comments work: i. Two opportunities to present your citizen comments at each meeting (beginning and end). ii. Our bylaws limit each comment to 3 minutes. iii.Comments should be Global in Nature and not specifically name student, teacher or administration b. Citizen Comments: i. Beth Haw - Would like to see the accommodations provided for individuals with disabilities during Citizen Comment time be extended to school division meetings. Wants SEAC’s support to bring this forward to the school board and the board of supervisor

VI. State SEAC Update: (Beth Haw) a. Dyslexia Bill- Training will be underway- teachers can go online for the training, learning modules for parents b. Online IEP- waiting on one more RFP process but it is coming c. Dispute Resolution Report- 166K students in SpEd, 146 complaints, 75 withdrawn, 53 are still in timeline, 18 extended time d. Next State SEAC Meeting March 30-31st, July 20-21st, October 5-6, December 7-8, 2017 VII. Discussion a. JCC Recreation Desitnation is Feb. 25th i. Will Need Volunteers to work SEAC Table ii. Beth Haw indicated could staff SEAC table as well if need be B. Upcoming Community Events iii.JCC Rec Sensory friendly pool party- May 6th 6:30pm iv. One Child Center for Autism Kids’ Night - Respite night held monthly free for special needs kiddo and $5 per sibling. All Special needs children welcome. Next one is January 21st v. Decoding Dyslexia meeting next Thursday, January 19th at 6:30pmSupport information, Dialoge vi. DownSyndrome of Greater Richmond Annual Conference- See Chris Waskey for the website and more information vii. 3rd Annual Advocacy Symposium April 11-12th (PEATC/VDOE) Richmond viii. Epilepsy Foundation has training for seizure detection and response, see Mrs. Campbell for more information ix.
