26 June 2013 Dear Parents/Carers I am writing to you following our third Monitoring Visit from Ofsted. Our lead Ofsted HMI, Charles Lowry visited us with three colleagues and inspected us against the areas for improvement from the previous inspections. Again Ofsted are only giving one judgement as to whether a school is or is not making progress towards the removal of special measures. I am delighted to inform you that again they say we are making progress towards the removal of special measures. This is fantastic news and I am expecting the report to be published at the end of this week; it was delayed initially due to a factual inaccuracy which has been corrected by Ofsted and we will text parents when the report is live on our website. We are really pleased that they have recognised our continued hard work and progress, and have seen more good and outstanding teaching. As always there are things that we need to continually develop; we are though, a step closer to the removal of special measures and I hope parents are reassured that standards are rising in the school and we will continue to build on these recognised improvements. Industrial Action: The school will be closed to all students except those already notified by the texts sent Tuesday lunchtime; this is mainly for parents of students in Year 10. I apologise for the disruption but I have had to make the decision to partially close due to health and safety. Academy Update: I have recently been in contact with the University of Chester Academies Trust and they feel that they may have a response from the DfE this week. I will keep you updated. Quiz Night: This Friday, 28 June, is the Friends of Wellfield Family Quiz Night at the Leyland RAF club. Doors open at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start, adults £2 and children £1 entry. As I said in my last letter, all are welcome to try and take the teachers’ crown as the winners for the last five years. Please come along and support if you can. Non-Uniform Day and HSBC Cake Sale: On Friday 19 July students can pay £1 to come to school in non-uniform. In addition, at lunchtime on Friday 12 July we are having a Cake Sale. All houses in the school will have the aim of raising the most money from the sale of cakes and we will have two members of staff from HSBC also competing. Students will be able to bring in cakes to sell and try to beat the

banker. HSBC have told us that if we beat them they will match the equivalent sum of money from all cakes sold on that day. It is not often we get such a generous offer, so any support parents can give would be gratefully received and will benefit our students. All funds raised will go towards the purchase of a defibrillator for our school and will benefit not only the students and staff but also the community users of our facilities.
