1 May 2015 Dear Parents/Carers I hope you all had an enjoyable Easter break and that pupils are ready for a busy and exciting summer term. Inspire and Achieve Year 11 GCSE’s: GCSE exams start in less than two weeks. Individual pupil timetables have been re-sent out to all parents along with a timetable of pre-exam revision sessions (a copy of which is also on our website). If for any reason you have not received yours please contact Miss Allen, Examination and Assessment Officer, immediately. I met with all Year 11 yesterday for an assembly to clarify the forthcoming weeks. There is no study leave and Year 11 pupils will attend their lessons as usual until they are told differently by a member of the Senior Leadership Team or myself. We have planned to hold a Year 11 Leavers assembly on Tuesday 23 June. Pupils come in at 1.30pm in their uniform; they can have their shirts signed and then have their assembly. Year 9 Options Evening: Thank you to all the parents who attended the Year 9 Options Evening last night. I hope you found it useful and informative and will assist your son or daughter in making the choices for their futures. A reminder that Options slips are due back on Friday 8 May. Challenge Duke of Edinburgh: Congratulations to the Year 10 pupils on their Duke of Edinburgh practice expedition last weekend. There were some sore feet on Monday as they trekked into school but I am sure it has given them a clearer understanding of the demands of the assessed expedition in July. Nurture Resuscitation Training: All pupils received training from the North West Ambulance Service last week on basic resuscitation techniques. They will now have received a certificate to show their attendance and engagement. I hope that the information they received, along with the opportunity to practice on one of our 35 resuscitation dummies will prepare them to be more confident should they ever be in that critical situation. Healthy Relationships Week: Pupils this week have had sessions with experienced staff from Clare House Women’s Refuge to develop their own understanding on healthy relationships. This is an extension of our PSHE and links with a national initiative through Women’s Aid “Safer Futures”. There is ongoing support available in school where pupils can be signposted to. I hope you enjoy your bank holiday weekend. Yours sincerely
