Dear Parents/Carers We are well and truly into the summer term now but we are just waiting for the summer weather to join us. I am sure it will come soon. Inspire and Achieve Year 11 GCSE’s have finally started: Year 11 pupils have already started their written exams for their GCSE’s. If there is any reason that a pupil is unwell and unable to attend an examination medical evidence will need to be obtained. There are certain exams where, due to the assessment components, no exceptional consideration can be given (Maths and Science) so attendance at these is absolutely imperative. Challenge Proposed Change to School Session Times Please find attached a statement from the Governors on a proposal to change the school session times from September 2015. The school proposes to reduce lunchtime from 50 to 35 minutes and consequently change the finish time of school from 3.25 p.m. to 3.10 p.m. This decision is not taken lightly and is for good reason as it is focused on improving learning in all lessons and extending extracurricular opportunities after school. The total teaching hours pupils receive will not change. This statement is the start of a consultation period with parents, pupils and staff. To provide further opportunity to hear the views of parents the Governors are holding a meeting on Monday 8 June at 4 p.m. in our Sports Hall. If you would like to submit any view in writing on the proposed changes please email [email protected] by Friday 19 June. If you are intending to attend the above Governors meeting please can you let the school know either by phone or email (email address above) so that we can ensure adequate seating for parents. It’s Not Okay There is a website that has been brought to our attention that maybe of interest to parents. www.itsnotokay.com provides advice and guidance on Child Sexual Exploitation and possible signs of grooming that parents can watch out for. Nurture Leyland Festival The Leyland Festival is taking place on Saturday 20 June on Worden Park. The school will be there so please come along and say hello and take part in some of the activities we will have on offer. More details to follow.
