My Way or God’s Way Use situations such as the following to help your students determine whether the characters did things “My Way” or “God’s Way”. You could also act out each scenario. Hang up a “My Way” sign on one side of the room and a “God’s Way” sign on the other side. After each situation, have the students point to the sign they believe is correct and say either “My Way” or “God’s Way”: a. Johnny finds a twenty dollar bill in the school cafeteria. He says, “All right. Thank you, Lord.” Then put it in his pocket and goes to class. Did he do things his way or God’s way? What should he have done? (He should have taken it to the office or given it to his teacher.) b. Bob is in a field and finds a twenty dollar bill. He looks around and doesn’t see any one else; He walks to both ends of the field and tries to find the person who lost it, but no one is there. Then he puts it in his pocket and walks home, knowing he’s done everything he could to return it to its rightful owner. Did he do things his way or God’s way? What’s the difference? What was first in his heart? c. Jennifer is playing kickball at school. Everyone is only supposed to get one pitch, but her best friend misses and so the pitcher gives her another try. The other team starts complaining as the teacher arrives. The teacher turns to Jennifer and asks, “Has she already had her turn?” Jennifer looks at her friend and knows that she will be mad at her if she tells the truth. What should she do? d. Fred is in Sunday School. The class is playing a game that he thinks is boring. So he says, “This stinks,” and he starts cracking jokes, making silly noises and trying to entertain himself and his friends instead. Did he do things his way or God’s way? e. Sally is in a store at school and she sees someone put a pencil in their pocket. They’re trying to steal it, but when she asks her friends what she should do, they say, “Don’t be tattle-tale. It’s just a pencil! Don’t make a big deal out of it.” So she doesn’t tell anyone. Did she do things her way or God’s way (She listened to the wrong people. She did things her friends’ way, which wasn’t God’s way.)
