East Cowton CE And Kirkby Fleetham CE Primary Schools Friday 15th February 2019

A place where the beliefs and practices of the Christian faith underpin the social, moral, spiritual, cultural and physical wellbeing of every individual. Cross Country A huge well done to every child in Class 2 who took part in the cross country run at Northallerton Leisure centre this week. Many of the children were quite nervous beforehand and it took real bravery to take part. We are very proud of all of them all! Mrs Mann and Mrs Hume were especially proud of the support and encouragement our children gave to each other. Thankyou to Mrs Kirk and Mrs Berriff who helped with transport and enabled the event to happen.

Nine schools took part in this heat and we had some super scores with 8 of our children making it through to the finals next week. From Y3 boys Oscar and George (KF) and Jack (EC) came first second and third respectively. Y3 girls, Lissy (EC) came 4th. From Year 5 boys Jack (KF) came 1st and Jess (KF) came 3rd for the girls. Willoughby came 1st in the Y6 boys and Ellie came 5th in the Y6 girls – Good luck next week everybody!

School Improvement This Tuesday we welcomed our school improvement adviser to both our schools. It was a pleasure for Mrs Dudman to show him round and she was very proud to show him the quality of the work in the books and the learning behaviour of all the children. He was particularly impressed by the learning in Foundation Stage during the Thanks to federation parents formorning, driving!and the way the children interacted with each other. Year 5 and 6 Confirmation classes There is a very special Deanery Confirmation planned at Saint Mary’s Church in Richmond on 23rd June. Reverend Martin Fletcher and the Reverend Jenni Lane are keen to involve Year 5/6 children from our Dales Academies Trust schools in confirmation classes. They have offered to run seven, one hour confirmation classes and a rehearsal in St Mary’s Church, starting the week beginning 30th April and culminating in a very special confirmation celebration for family and friends in church on 23rd June. If your child is in year five or six you will find a letter attached with a reply slip to be returned by Wednesday 13th March. Mrs Arrowsmith’s Gambia Visit As you may be aware our schools are linked with Bakau Newtown School in the Gambia, through the Gambian Education Charity Trust based in Kirkby Fleetham. Mrs Arrowsmith will be travelling to the Gambia next week to deliver staff training to the staff of a number of schools in the region. All Gambian schools teach children to read and spell through ‘Jolly Phonics’ as we do in our schools, and Mrs Arrowsmith and the teachers accompanying her will be helping them to deliver this. We are really hoping that technology will allow her to communicate with us regularly so we can follow what she is up to, and we wish her all the best for a very successful trip. Mrs Dudman is very much looking forward to covering class 1 whilst Mrs Arrowsmith is away.
