Ways to Stay in (F-1) Status: I.

Enroll & remain in at least 12 units for the Fall and fall semesters i. If you fall below 12 units, you will be contacted and asked to see an international counselor to petition for below 12 (see handbook) ii. Also, enroll in more than 12 units to complete your program sooner

II.

Update our office when you: i. Change your home address (U.S.) with our office ii. Change your major and/or campus (I-20 front page)

III.

Before you Travel outside the U.S., get your I-20 signed by a DSO i. Bring your passport and I-20 so we can make sure you are in good status before leaving to visit a country outside the U.S.

Completing your program: IV.

I-20 is expiring: Meet with a DSO to complete a Program Extension and extend your Program End Date on your I-20 [Student Education Plan (SEP) required].

V.

OPT: Want to work for 12 months full-time and gain experience (and get paid!!)? Optional Practical Training is for students who complete an AA/AS or CA/CP. In your last semester, petition to graduate and contact the office to do OPT.

VI.

Transferring Schools or Returning Home: Come to our office and complete/return the Departure/Transfer Out Form. Students transferring to a different school must bring an acceptance letter to the new school
