September 2015 Riley Racer Report Welcome to Riley for the 2015-16 school year! We are off to a very smooth start. Thank you for understanding our safety procedures as they relate to your children and our staff. While we love welcoming parents and friends into our building, it is important that we err on the side of safety. I understand how difficult it can be to send your children off to school each day, and I promise we make responsibility for their safety our number one priority. Our School Resource Officer remains in charge and will check guests through the front doors as they arrive, are buzzed through, and sign in. Please have a picture ID available at sign-in and again, thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Now that we have all established our “back-toschool routines”, there are just a few reminders to help the traffic situation run smoothly before and after school. Please remember that parents are to park in the north or south lots when entering school for a visit. If you are walking your child to the doors before or picking up there after school, please park in the north lot as our bus fleet utilizes our south lot for drop off and pick up.

We ask parents to escort their children across streets and parking lots; please don’t call or send children across unattended. The drop-off zone in front of the building is off limits for parked cars during am drop-offs and pm pick-ups. Car drivers should pull all the way forward as directed before having your child disembark. This helps prevent a back-up onto Highway 46 and allows our buses to enter and exit the parking lot with their precious cargo. The curb areas in and out of the parking lots are also off limits for standing or parking. We have a number of students who walk back and forth to school, so please be on the lookout for these children as they cross the street in front of the building. While the rules may seem many, I assure you our VCSC Transportation Department, along with Student Services and the corporation Risk Manager have carefully studied the traffic pattern and have put in place what we believe is the best plan for our school. Thank you for understanding how seriously we take our safety commitment to all of our children. Please feel free to contact me at any time with concerns and/or comments. I look forward to working as a team to make this the best year yet for our Riley School Community.
