Donald R. Waters Scholarship ($10,000) Donald R. Waters, Sr. was passionate about the construction industry in New Jersey. As President of Waters and Bugbee, Inc., a construction firm specializing in utility work, Don believed that one’s success in New Jersey’s construction industry was dependent on strong partnering with labor to educate and train workers. He was proud to be a member of the construction industry and worked hard on initiatives that would deepen public understanding of the construction industry’s contribution to our state and nation’s infrastructure. 2015 Leadership Recognition Scholarship in honor of Michael Jensen ($5,000) Michael Jensen was President of Michael Riesz & Company for 54 years, retiring in 2010 after leading the firm through more than five of its nine decades as it built institutional, commercial and educational facilities throughout New Jersey. He will be forever remembered and respected by his peers as a man with the utmost integrity, building a company that is known today for its quality, reliability and professionalism. Mickey was a strong supporter of the construction industry, and served as President of the Building Contractors Association of New Jersey in 1979 and 1980. John F. Donohoe Scholarship ($10,000) John Donohoe began his career in an entry-level position at Moretrench American Corporation and rose to become the company’s president, chief executive officer and chairman. Beyond his work at Moretrench, John was committed to the construction industry and served as mentor to many members of the civil engineering profession. More than his professional contributions, he will be remembered for his deep faith, warmth, integrity, and devotion to his family. To continue John’s goal of encouraging students to enter the civil engineering profession and to pursue careers in heavy construction contracting, this scholarship was established in his memory.
2015 Leadership Recognition Scholarship in honor of Benedict Torcivia Sr. ($5,000) Benedict Torcivia, Sr. founded Torcon, Inc., in 1965, and built his business into one of the premier and most successful construction management firms in New Jersey and the nation. Always generous with his time and resources, Ben’s motivation was to create a better construction and business climate. Ben served as Chairman and CEO of Torcon, Inc. and was committed to the Building Contractors Association of New Jersey, serving as President in 1981 and 1982. Perhaps his most important legacy is the philosophy on which he founded his company: exceptional performance and total customer focus.
