Thirty years on, they are filling not only small village halls, but all of our major performance venues. In these years their dedication to their music has earned them both the title of Doctor and an MBE. In 1988, two members from two of Scotland’s leading bands, The Boys of The Lough and Silly Wizard, came together to work on a television series.  You could say the rest is history.  Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham enjoyed performing together so much that they decided to have a small tour that year. That was beginning of a remarkable working

WESTWARD THE LIGHT Traditional concert by inspiring young musicians Westward The Light is a remarkable new band, a collaboration between piano/fiddle duo Charlie Grey and Joseph Peach (BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award Finalists 2017), viola player Sally Simpson (Catriona Hawksworth and Sally Simpson, the Fika Collective), and guitarist and vocalist Owen Sinclair (Tanara, Inyal). The band’s formation is the result of years of collaboration in a range of settings, extending back to their school days at Plockton National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music. Westward The Light offers a platform for the members of the group to combine their expansive knowledge of Scottish folk style, ethos and culture, portraying the themes that are significant in the traditional music of Scotland, but isolating and expanding on them to create a new expression of an age-old sound.

DOGSTAR THEATRE LET'S INHERIT THE EARTH Comedy theatre at its best Stockholm is up in flames and the temperature is getting higher. With wildfires across Europe and the plastic disaster highlighted by The Blue Planet earlier this year, Dogstar's new co-production with Profilteatern of Sweden is even more prescient than we anticipated. You might not think comedy was the best way to approach climate change, but that's what we've done and we hope you'll like the result. THEATRE NEWFOUNDLAND presents OUR FRANCES

An extraordinary new play celebrating the life and heroism of Frances Cluett, VAD, comes to SEALL all the way from Newfoundland. “Fanny” was born and lived in Belleoram, Newfoundland. In 1916, she joined the Volunteer Aid Detachment and was shipped overseas to London, ultimately serving for four years at the 10th General Hospital in Rouen, France. The play is inspired by her many letters to home, detailing the horrors and heartbreak she witnessed, and revealing how her humor and resilience

captured the love and loyalty of all she encountered. “Women were very much a part of the war and often at the very heart of the horror and terror as they nursed the boys who returned maimed and dying,” said director Jeff Pitcher. “The letters gathered and edited by Bill Rompkey and Bert Riggs and published by Flanker Press give us a remarkable view of that world, and bringing those words to life, off the page and onto the stage, is down to some wonderful work by the playwright.”

THE DIME NOTES

A fresh take on a timeless style of jazz “Inspired” Sunday Times “Lovingly curated examples of great music from the ancestral repertoire of jazz” Jazz de Gama “Swings from start to finish” Jst Jazz “Laid-back swing and clever interplay makes their music feel fresh and vibrant” Jazz Society of Oregon The Dime Notes dig back into the bluesdrenched sounds of clarinet-driven 1920’s New Orleans jazz, unearthing a repertoire of stomps, blueses, and forgotten gems of the era from musicians such as Johnny Dodds, Jelly Roll Morton and Red Nichols. Since the release of their debut album on Lejazzetal Records in 2016, the band has toured extensively in the UK, with appearances at festivals and theatres throughout the country as well as in France

and the Netherlands. Their album has received positive reviews from the press both nationally and internationally, and will be re-released in France in partnership with Fremeaux in 2018. They have partnered with the award-winning Scottish bean-tobar chocolate company IQ Choc to create the Dime Notes signature Espresso-Kick chocolate bar, and 2018 will see the band touring in England, Scotland, Germany, France, Hungary, Moldova, France, and Canada. The Dime Notes present a fresh take on a timeless style, emphasising the propulsive grooves and Adult £14 sultry melodies which made Member £12 early jazz revolutionary, Student £7 controversial, and wildly Young person £7 Seasons Free popular.
