Principal’s Message
The 2012-2013 school year is off to a great start! The long-standing tradition of excellence in education at Colorado continues! I personally welcome you to become as involved as you can, in any way that you can. Working as a team, we can help your children to grow and achieve at high levels both academically and socially. Please take the time to talk with your children on a daily basis regarding their school experiences. As partners in your child’s education, we encourage communication between home and school. We make every effort to keep Colorado families informed. Planners are sent home daily. Thursday Take-Home folders provide a weekly opportunity for notes, updates and information. Please visit our website @: www.muscatine.k12.ia.us/col/ For a list of current events, click on "School Calendar" in the yellow header under our school hours. If you’d like, you can sync your own Google calendar with Colorado Elementary's Activity Calendar. You'll also find a links to subscribe to email updates and our RSS feed. Please feel free to stop in and visit our school. My door is always open, so feel free to stop by the office during the school year. Thank you for trusting us with your child’s education. We are looking forward to working with you. Yours for great schools, Mr. Spies

Please let Mrs. Reynolds know of any change in address or phone number. You may call the office at 263-4998. E-mail is an important way the school communicates with parents—especially in the case of bad weather. Make sure all your parent contact information is up-to-date! Please be sure your student arrives by 8:00am each day, and is picked up by 3:15pm each day.

Notes from the Nurse…… My name is Teresa Kulick and I am the school nurse at Colorado School. Please feel free to call me anytime with questions or concerns. Even though it is only September we need to start preparing for the cold/flu season.
ATTENTION PARENTS OF NEW STUDENTS IMMUNIZATIONS, DENTAL AND LEAD SCREENING RECORDS ARE DUE.
Keep students home 24 hours after the vomiting and/or fever has subsided, without fever reducing medicine. The influenza viruses can be spread for up to 10 days after fever subsides. Keeping them home 24 hours helps prevent spreading as well as reoccurrence.
It is VERY IMPORTANT for students to STAY HOME when they are ill. Symptoms of influenza include runny nose, sore throat, headache, fever, cough/congestion or malaise. You may see one or several symptoms, but all indicate illness.
The CDC states that HAND WASHING is the most important step in preventing illness. Please practice good hand washing with your families at home everyday. This includes washing before eating, after using the restroom and after coughing/sneezing into the hand.
Please start planning now for when your children need to stay home with illness. Many babysitters will not allow sick children in their homes so alternate care needs to be in place if parents can’t stay home from work.
If we all work together, follow the guidelines, practice good hygiene and respiratory etiquette we will succeed in keeping our exposure to influenza to a minimum. With Healthy Regards, Teresa Kulick RN
Notes and Reminders: • Please check-in at the office when visiting the school. • Please label your child’s clothing! • Breakfast begins at 7:30. If your child will eat breakfast, they
