The ideal binder size is four inches so that all student work for each class can be stored in one single binder. You will need about 10 dividers for your 9 week lessons. Student binder should be organized in the following manner: 1. Plastic supply holder 2. Binder grading sheet Each class period should have its own section in the AVID Binder, and they should be set up in the order of the student's schedule. The AVID section of the AVID Binder should be set up in the following way: 1. Handouts 2. Cornell Notes 3. Tutorials 4. Grade Info. (OPTIONAL) Cornell Notes Cornell Notes are a proven focused note-taking method. When used appropriately, students are guaranteed to increase their knowledge and raise their grades in any given class! Cornell Notes are taken during class lectures, class power points, class readings, or movies in which students are responsible for the information. In order to receive full credit for the Cornell Notes grade, all sections must be complete: Heading at the top (including Essential Question and Topic), Notes on the right, Summaries on the bottom, and Questions on the left. Additionally, the Cornell Note process in AVID requires a process of review in which students go back through their notes to add missing information, mark vocabulary, main ideas, and organize their notes.
